This post is a big overdue, but I wanted to share it…
A few weeks back we recorded an episode of Living with Nate and Adam entitled, “Tuck Club”. It was more of a mini-movie then an episode really. We worked with Magic Bullet to achieve that Fincheresque look, we got the same soundtrack, we did take after take after take…
In the end the results were good. But not great. And so I spent another few weeks going back and cleaning everything up, fixing the sound, and most importantly getting the compression just right. This is the point where once again I thank Jeff Macpherson aka Dr. Tiki for all of his help with the compression process and tell you to go check out tikibartv.com for more fun and games! And no, I’m not doing that for money or cause Dr. Tiki told me to, I’m doing it because I feel that you really should! They’re great people churning out some of the highest quality content on the web!
The one thing about this episode is that it is littered with inside jokes/references. I guess in a way you could call it our Post-Modern Intertextuality episode. Anyways, to better clarify all of this for you, and so you have a better understanding of the episode I’m going to break down what you need to know/see to really get the joke.
Welcome to Fight Club – This is the scene from Fight Club that the first half is parodying. Sorry the quality is shite but its the best I could find online. This is probably the most obvious parody since many people have seen Fight Club. If you have not yet, what the hell are you waiting for?
The Tuck – This is the less obvious parody for many (of course, if you actually do know the scene you’ll know it’s not one that is easily forgotten). In this highly disturbing scene from The Silence of the Lambs… you know I’m not even going to bother to write out the explanation. If you don’t get it watch the clip. But, you’ve been warned.
But What about this Tuck, and Tuck Club, and WTF!?
Good question. The long story short was that this all came about during the shooting of 3x. While no one is really sure who started it or when it started (Bill claims we were doing it in the radio room for a while…) it became an inside joke during the shooting and resulted in a few clips of us dicking around which can be watch at my facebook.
When it came time for Bill and Mitch to visit us I thought it would be fun to take our short “Tuck Club” blooper and do it as a shot for shot remake of the scene from Fight Club. Everyone was down for the idea, and Bill being the genius he is came up with the idea of tacking on the Silence of the Lambs parody. And so there it was.
Now hopefully you have a better understanding of what’s going on. And appologies if I scarred anyone for life with that Buffalo Bill clip. And for all you Fight Club fans, be sure to check out this trailer parody which turns Fight Club into a James L. Brooks style Rom-Com. It’s hilarious!
Would you tuck me?
Oh, and more congrats is in order for Robin who got a call back for Triple Sensation this morning. Looks like I may soon be dating a celebrity! (albeit a Canadian Reality TV celebrity, a celebrity none the less)
